[update Monday, January 29] This issue is resolved by updating to the latest Zimbra connector

[update Friday, Dec 29] We know that it was the Windows update that caused this issue, so a work around that has worked for 100% of users so far is to downgrade Outlook to the last version, at least until this issue is addressed. Here is an example method for automating this by setting a policy:

Computer Configuration / Policies / Administrative Templates / Microsoft Office 2016 (Machine) / Updates / Prevent

Office from being updated to a specific version

Block version: 16.0.17029.20068:16.0.16924.20150|16.0.17029.20108:16.0.16924.20150

Then put the following cmd file on network share and asked users to run it to downgrade Office to 16.0.16924.20150:

gpupdate /target:computer /force

"C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ClickToRun\OfficeC2RClient.exe" /update user

[update Friday, Dec 22] In Outlook, another workaround used successfully by some, is disabling automatic draft saving. If this works for you and you would like to apply this generally, it is possible to disable the automatic saving of drafts via a registry key. Apply a GPO that changes a registry key. The reg key you need to change is: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\MailSettings
Then, change the 'AutosaveTime' DWORD key to 0.

[update Wednesday, Dec 20] In Outlook, please try switching to composing using RTF instead of HTML. We have evidence from some customers that this, by itself, in at least some cases may be enough to resolve the issue.

This week we started seeing some customers who are using Windows Outlook experience problems when trying to send PDF attachments. The problems include missing email body text, and signatures.

To work around it, either disable the adobe outlook plugin, or at least temporarily, or when sending PDFs attachments, use the web client instead of Outlook.

You can reach your web client by logging into your gateway, which is normally your domain followed by .zmailcloud.com, for instance, if your domain is mydomain.com, then your web client gateway would normally be located at mydomain.zmailcloud.com.

We suspect this new bug was introduced by either Windows or Adobe update.

Hope you have a good weekend, and are working toward happy holidays!

Update from Zimbra (note that down-grading Outlook is usually less practical than our suggestions above):

Blank email issue on ZCO

After recent Microsoft updates (Version 2310, 2311), customers reported an intermittent issue that when sending a message from ZCO, it is delivered as a blank message to the recipient. The issue is not consistently reproducible and there are no definite steps to reproduce it. There have been no changes in the ZCO product that caused the issue, as we found this issue is not seen on Outlook versions not having the latest Microsoft patch. Our engineering team has also submitted a post on Microsoft forums asking for their immediate attention. We are also analyzing the issue and trying to find a root cause and feasible solution for the ZCO product. We will update as soon as we have an ETA on the fix.

For the customers facing the issue, the workaround is to downgrade their Outlook to the previous version.
